We hope you are all getting jazzed about the Zags domination of every opponent they play, senior night on Saturday, and VEGAS in now just less than two weeks.  We’ve been working really hard getting a great line up of events for WCC weekend and the Vegas Social Club Packs are finally here.  They are only $40.00 which is seriously the greatest deal anyone is heard of.  To order on CashNet, past this link into your browser:  commerce.cashnet.com/gukennel21.  Order these soon, because the trip is right around the corner.  Pick will be some time the week before spring break, keep an eye out for Kennel Club emails with more details.

Here’s what’s included:

1)Bus Shuttle Service to and from The Orleans for each Gonzaga Men’s Basketball Game.  The gamblers and slot machine players actually love when 300 zags roll in together, all dressed the same, and start chanting GO GONZAGA, G-O-N-Z-A-G-A.

2) Entry into Alumni Pre Game Socials before each Gonzaga Men’s Basketball Game.  These are at the Orleans arena and usually the first destination after getting off the bus.  It comes with 3 beers and tons of appetizers.  Who doesn’t love hundreds of Zags in one ballroom, most of them alumni who want to live vicariously through every person who is still a student at Gonzaga?

After a week off from Kennel action, the zags are back, taking care of Pepperdine last night and ready to face the Lions of LMU tomorrow for the second week in a row.  I’m guessing Coach Good and his squad want nothing more than to rid themselves of the memory forever, we Zags are still very proud and aware of the fact that just last Thursday we blew LMU out by a whopping 45 points.  This season, LMU’s overall record is:  8-14, and their conference record at  1-8 has only seen a WCC victory vs. Santa Clara back on January 10th.  Lets meet the Lions:

Senior forward Ashley Hamilton is the main force for LMU down low, averaging 14.1 pts each game this year so far. It is junior guard, Anthony Ireland, however who leads the Lions in scoring, averaging 19.8 pts per game, making his the second leading scorer in the WCC.  Ireland is one of the most successful LMU Men’s basketball players in the history of the program and is often called the ‘Ice Man’ for his clutch presence down the stretch.Screen shot 2013-02-06 at 5.46.06 PM

This frozen alter-ego is so notorious it inspired some LMU students to actually test the legitimacy of the claim that Anthony Ireland is an ‘Ice Man’.  By first coercing Anthony to sit in a giant metal tub, they then poured ice all over him and saw how long he could take it.  Take a look at:  Cold As Ice.  I’m decently amused with LMU’s obsession with ice and the attribution of all things cold to describe how Anthony Ireland plays basketball.  Is there ever actually any real, created by weather, natural ice in Los Angeles?  No.

But actually, if there is an true ‘Ice Man’ in the WCC, I’d say it would be much more appropriate for him to actually have some familiarity with ice.

Its understandable that Lion nation would want to bequeath their superstar with a descriptive, intimidating, desirable pet name, but maybe they should keep their creativity within the confides of geographical/climatic appropriateness.

I’m pretty sure I would have liked sophomore Bruce English a lot more roughly 15 years ago, so much swag at such an early age. But I’d put money on the fact that he still wears clip-on ties.  Screen shot 2013-02-06 at 6.16.32 PM

Take note of the poise and fierce way in which senior Taylor Walker handles himself and his emotions on the court.  He is trained in self presentation, or so it can be assumed thanks to these photos, uncovered in an album titled: “A Lil Somethin Somethin on the Side.” We can only hope that some day we’ll catch a glimpse of this face on the side of a bus or a building, trying to sell us Calvin Klein apparel.

This game against LMU holds opportunities for more than one victory.  Obviously, we’re focused on an on-court win, but this game offers opportunity for non-basketball playing students to win as well.  Our very own Gonzaga Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is heading up the GU branch of a WCC wide campaign called Clothes 4 Souls.  This is a contest between all the schools in the WCC to see who can get the most t-shirt donations, in comparison to the population of the student body.  Last year, Gonzaga won, but no one really heard about it because there was no prize.  This year, the school that is victorious gets $1000 to donate to the charity of their choice.

ANYWAY, Gonzaga SAAC will be pushing for everyone to bring their t-shirts to Saturday’s game.  Simultaneously with your donation, you will be entered into a raffle to win a limo ride to dinner at Anthony’s Restaurant, a $100 dinner credit, limo ride back to McCarthy and front row seats for senior night vs. Portland on March 3rd for you and one other person.
