Quick Recap and a Look Ahead (BATTLE INFO)

Hey hey hey! Can you guys believe that it’s almost DECEMBER??!?! I’m still over here thinking that Orientation was like two weeks ago. But… All this means is that we’re in the thick of the college basketball season, so read on to catch up on everything that’s been happening and take a quick glance ahead at what this next week has in store!

Last weekend, GU’s Volleyball team began a three game home stand to wrap up their season. They opened with a loss to San Diego on Thursday night, then took a two set lead over #12 BYU on Saturday before a heartbreaking five set defeat. However, they were able to close out the season with a 3-1 win over Portland on Tuesday night. With only one graduating senior, the Zags look to have a great squad for next year, and it’ll be exciting to see what they can do!

The Women’s Basketball team was in action in Las Vegas this weekend and, unfortunately, Lady Luck was not on their side. The Zags dropped back to back games, with a down-to-the-wire loss to American University on Friday and a tough game against #17 Iowa on Saturday. Hopefully with their return to the friendly confines of the Kennel, the

y will get back to their winning ways!

If you somehow missed the Men’s Basketball team taking the NIT title in New York City over the holiday weekend, here;s a quick recap:

  • With a 12 point win over Georgia and a 7 point win over St. John’s, the Zags moved to 6-0 on the season, with strong nonconference wins that are going to look great come Selection Sunday. The win over St. John’s was especially powerful, as Madison Square Garden is basically the Johnnies’ backyard.
  • Josh Perkins is out indefinitely after taking a brutal knee/kick/flying karate move to the face agaisnt Georgia, suffering a broken jaw. Though he’s currently wired shut, hopes are high that he’ll be able to return this season!
  • In connection, we saw the debut of Silas Melson, who was slated to redshirt this season. With the injury to Josh, the coaching staff burned his redshirt and he played for the first time at the NIT FInals in MSG – kind of impressive. Not only that, but the first shot he took was a confident three, extending an early Zags lead. He’s gonna be fun to watch.

NOW, let’s begin our look ahead. There’s only a few more chances to see your Zags in action this semester, so we hope you make the most of them!

First up, BATTLE IN SEATTLE is December 20th! The Zags will be taking on Lucas Meikle and the Cal Poly Mustangs, and you won’t want to miss it! Student tickets are available starting December 1 (that’s TOMORROW) at the Ticket Office for a price of $10, cash or card. There is no priority or wait ordr for these tickets – simply go up to the Ticket Office window and purchase your ticket. They will be available all week from 10 am to 5 pm, until the supply runs out.

Next up, this week in the Kennel we’ve got the Men’s team taking on Southeast Louisiana on Tuesday night and the Women’s team taking on Portland State on Sunday afternoon. They will also be playing Eastern Washington on Wednesday night in Cheney, which is a fairly close away game! Let’s get lots of Zags out this week to support our Bulldogs!

Finally, it’s finally time… The Men head to Tuscon this Saturday for a match-up with the Wildcats for the unofficial title of Best Team on the West Coast. This has been a great series over the years, and the Top-10 rankings of both teams will make this one a must see. We all remember the last time they met (ahem… We don’t wanna talk about it) and with the Wildcats coming to Spokane next season, it’ll be interesting to see which team gains the momentum in the series!

That’s it for now! See you in the Kennel!
